Sustainability

Taking responsibility for our actions and also social responsibility are important parts of our philosophy. Value creation comes from appreciation. We work according to this principle along the entire supply chain. Sustainability means leading by example.

Whether as a nation, as a company or as a private individual – only if everyone makes their contribution can our nature and our climate be sustainably preserved and responsibility passed on along the supply chain.

Energy efficient

Our location

In July-September 2022 we moved into our new location in Cologne Gremberghoven. Both our office buildings and our warehouse are built according to the kfw 55 standard and therefore have demonstrably low energy requirements due to particularly high insulation values.

Made in Germany

Office equipment

The office equipment was largely manufactured in Germany and installed by local companies. So we avoided transport for a long time. Visitors can move around the entire building, from the entrance to the showroom, the warehouse or the individual office floors, completely barrier-free.

We drain the resulting rainwater into the property and return it to the groundwater. A green roof on part of the roof area provides further rain retention.

For self-sufficiency

Solar system

Our first company headquarters was equipped with a solar system in 2011. With the 99 kWp installed here, we have since produced just over 1x gigawatt hour GWh of electricity. We also focus on sustainability and renewable energies at our new location. With a 300 kWp solar system we generate enough electricity to meet our own needs in the months of April - September.

Overhangs are fed into the network. The second construction phase with a further 300 kWp and thus an expansion of the system to 600 kWp is already being planned. In the coming years, all other Wurm Group locations will also be equipped with solar systems.

Bee colonies

Our latest measure, with which we want to have a positive impact on our environment, is setting up beehives for several bee colonies on our property.

The goal is to plant as much area on our property as possible with flower meadows in order to provide even our smallest employees with enough work.

Energy saving

Lighting

All lighting in and around the building is of course equipped with LED. We prevent energy wastage by using motion detectors in all parts of the building that are not permanently occupied.

Social responsibility

As a family-run, globally operating company, we, G. Wurm GmbH + Co. KG and all companies in the Wurm Group, are aware of our social and ecological responsibility in a globalized supply chain and are expressly committed to it. We expect the same not only from our employees, but especially from our suppliers, service providers and all other business partners. By encouraging our business partners, especially our international suppliers, to follow our rules of conduct, we ensure the implementation of the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act applicable in Germany.

In addition, we naturally expect and assume that all partners will comply with the applicable national laws and regulations. With our rules of conduct, or Code of Conduct (CoC for short), we define a minimum standard for our business relationships.

We encourage all of our business partners to respect this, implement it and, in turn, communicate it to their suppliers and monitor compliance with it. Our customers can download a version signed by us in five languages in the customer backend. We have been a member of amfori, an organization often known as BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative), for years.

International suppliers who undergo a BSCI audit show us that social responsibility is taken seriously. Regardless of this, we regularly assess the situation in our manufacturers' factories through personal visits.

REDUCE GREENHOUSE GASES

Our carbon footprint

We must all be aware that our actions and our daily lives cannot prevent our atmosphere from being polluted with CO2. Our goal must be to reduce CO2 pollution at every point. An important step is to become aware of where and how much CO2 you produce in your daily activities. We regularly have our carbon footprint calculated by independent service providers.

So we always find ways to save money. Our industrial trucks in logistics are charged during the employees' lunch break in order to supply them with solar energy. Company cars are gradually being converted to hybrid or fully electric drives.
